I'm sure you've heard the rumors that white kitchens are going out of style, and from a design perspective, they probably are. However, from a Realtor's perspective there are so many reasons why a white kitchen will always remain timeless. Read below to find out why.
Buyers Love It
I've worked with a lot of buyers and toured a lot of kitchens. Let me tell you now, buyers LOVE a white kitchen with stainless steel appliances. If you're looking to sell your home in the near future, white is an excellent neutral choice that will attract a lot of buyers into your home.
Just a couple of years ago the 70s had made a comeback in fashion. Last year, 90s grunge dominated the fashion world and now... the 2000s are back with a vengeance. Trends change every few years and most things will eventually come back in style. If UGG boots and low rise jeans can somehow come back in style, you can guarantee your white kitchen will too. While you may see nothing but green kitchens now, do we really think that this will be a trend in the next couple of years? Probably not. In the meantime, I'll be rocking my high rise jeans in my white kitchen!
It's a Blank Canvas
Have you ever seen that couple on House Hunters that just can't get past that terrible shade of paint on the walls? It is so much easier to imagine the possibilities with a white kitchen as it is almost like a blank canvas. Even if a white kitchen isn't trendy when you decide to sell your home, it will be easier for buyers to imagine a different cabinet color or backsplash if the current one is clean and neutral.
It Looks Clean
A clean home is incredibly important when you sell your home because it makes your home appear well maintained. It is hard to imagine that the air filters have been changed or the dryer vent has been cleaned if the rest of the home is dirty. If done and maintained properly, nothing looks more clean and fresh than white. Even if your white kitchen isn't trending at the time, it will still appear clean - and that is important.
They aren't lying when they say kitchens and bathrooms will sell your home. It is important to make these rooms neutral and universally liked in order to get more showings, and therefore more offers. The more offers you have on your home, the more likely you will be able to sell above your target price. Keep your design choices simple to attract more buyers!
It's Your Home
At the end of the day, you're the one that is going to be spending the most time in your home. Your home should be a place of comfort for you and reflect your own personal style. For me personally, I love clean, simple, and cozy. I gravitate toward neutrals and textures and I absolutely love a white kitchen. Others might feel more at home with Maximalism and bright colors everywhere. While I can tell you whats popular amongst buyers, you need to decorate your home to where it feels warm and inviting to YOU. At the end of the day there will always be someone out there with a similar sense of style that will be absolutely drooling over your olive green cabinets!
